Mifune Seirei Nagashi is one of the three major Kumamoto rituals.

The boats are made of straw, bamboo and plywood. The boat is decorated with lanterns and flowers and a flag with the name of the deceased on it. Fireworks and firecrackers are set off, and the boat moves on down the river.

The Spiritual Festival is held every year on August 16.
