Located in the southern part of the Aso caldera, in the Nango Valley between Aso Godake and Mt.

 

On both sides of Shirakawa, which flows from the east to the west in the center, most of the residential areas, commercial areas, and arable land spread out, creating a rural landscape with a view. Most of the altitudes above 600 m are occupied by forests and wilderness, and the north is divided by a line connecting Mt. Aso, Kusachisato, and the crater field. Near the Tateno crater in the west is the entrance of the caldera at the break of Aso Sorin, where the Shirakawa joins the Kurokawa flowing from the north in the Aso valley and flows to the Kumamoto plain.
